Remembering Glen Dale Spreen --
Glen was a ‘quiet man of music’, a prolific creator and somehow. through the volte-face of life, took me under his wing as a songwriting apprentice and then partner for over 25 years. Before we met, Glen had already amassed a legendary body of work with many of the top artists of his day, from Elvis, B. J. Thomas, Waylon Jennings, Willie Nelson to Dan Fogelberg; the list is unending -- [Glen's Discography] After we met, Glen and I teamed to write over 60+ songs and released 4 albums over out time together. He guided me through the craft of songwriting and into the Grammy® Recording Academy, where I have continued to meet and get to know so many incredible talented artists. I am humbled to have learned so much of what I know today in the world of music, primarily because of the brilliant talent he graciously shared with me over the years. I will never forget Glen’s creativity, his ability to connect music and the soul, and his kindness. As I reflect today on the past, I’ll keep writing, recording and singing songs as long as I can -- because that is what Glen taught me to do. And I know that somewhere, Glen is listening, smiling, and adding an insanely beautiful string part to the second verse to make the song complete. As Dan Fogelberg said, ‘My life has been a poor attempt to imitate the man I'm just a living legacy to the leader of the band.’ I miss you my friend, but I’ll hear you in my heart, forever. |
